House of lords
Ketley Parish Council is very proud to announce that Ketley Councillor Kuldip Sahota is to enter the House of Lords as a Labour peer.
Councillor Sahota has served as a Parish Councillor for many years and is a very valued member of the Ketley Community.
Councillor Kuldip Sahota said “I have always lived in Ketley after emigrating from India in 1966 to join my father who settled here in 1957.
All my family, six siblings and my parents, have always lived in Ketley. We grew-up here, and there are now four generations of Sahotas in Ketley. My children followed me to a local school and my grand-daughter, Puneet, is currently attending Meadows school.
My father, my brother, my uncle and my brother –in-law had all worked, at various times in GKN Sankey Hadley. We raised our families here. My father passed away in 1975 and my mother in 2020.
Amongst the Telford Asian communities we are known as “The Ketley Family”.
“I started in local politics in 1999, and my very first elected position was on Ketley Parish Council. Ketley is my home and I am very proud of Ketley and its people.
“It will be a great honour and a privilege to sit in the House of Lords representing Telford and its different faith communities. I want to take the opportunity to thank my wife and family for their unstinting support over many, many years. I am forever grateful for the trust and support placed in me by the people of Telford and The Wrekin, without which this would not be possible. As the son of a foundry worker, it has been my pleasure to represent my local community on the council and I pledge to continue to fight for the very best for the borough when I take up my position in the House of Lords.”
Councillor Sahota has spent two decades working for local charities, including fundraising for Severn Hospice and serving teas and coffees at the friends’ café at the Princess Royal Hospital.
Police notice
The Police and Parish Council are working together to help improve the environment of the parish for residents. This includes joint periodic walkabouts of the parish by representatives of the Police with Parish Councillors. Should you come across these please feel free to share your views and concerns.
The Police are aware that concerns and issues can be raised on social media but the Police are limited in what they can do unless these are reported direct. The public are the eyes and ears of the Police and information/intelligence is the lifeblood of policing. Crime can be reported online via the West Mercia Police website. This is reportedly easier than using 101.
